Wetsuit care guide

Triathlon specific wetsuits are different from water-skiing, scuba or rafting wetsuits. They are fragile race equipment and require careful use. The suits are made to put on slowly, wearing socks, and taking enough time to get the suit on correctly.

To make sure you get as much use out of your wetsuit as possible you should make sure that you air it out after each use. This will ensure that your wetsuit will keep its shape and stay free of mould. Rinsing your suit after use is a good idea, often the water you swim in will have chemicals in it to ensure it is hygienic for you. Rinsing these chemicals off your wetsuit after it has been used will help it to last longer.

Take care not to ‘chip’ or snag the surface of the suit with your fingernails. Race wetsuits are made to take off quickly when done correctly. Use a lubricant (Bodyglide or PAM but NEVER Vaseline or Petroleum based products as they will damage the neoprene).

How you transport your wetsuit is also important, if you stuff your suit straight into a plastic bag it will not dry-out properly, hanging it up to dry will pay dividends in the long run.
